Can I claim to have my wisdom teeth out (under Hospital cover)?
If you're treated in hospital:
Hospital Cover provides benefits for things like your accommodation, theatre and anaesthetist fees if an oral or maxillofacial surgeon treats you as an inpatient at an agreement private hospital.
But you can’t claim your surgeon’s or dentist’s fees through Hospital cover because wisdom tooth extractions aren’t on the Medicare Benefits Schedule. If you have Extras cover, you can claim their fees under the Major Dental benefit.
If you're not treated in hospital:
If a dentist does the extraction at their practice, you can’t claim under your Hospital cover, but if you have Extras cover, you could claim under the Major Dental benefit.
Always ask for an estimate of what your treatment will cost to be sure.
